What Happen to the Love: The Maceo Interview

So months ago I introduced you all to my artist Maceo. This young mans voice is so unique and incredible. We finally got to sit down and do a great interview.

Who is Maceo?
Maceo is sometimes an emotionally unstable, energetic, positive, loving and empathetic human being who can sing his tail off.

What was growing up like for you?
Growing up was exactly what it was growing up. I am the oldest of 3 soon to be 4 so I had to grow up fast. Especially with no father figure around.

What is your coming out story?
I didn't come out until my Jr. year in high school. I told someone I could confide in and it went from there. I just told everyone I thought would be comfortable with knowing that i was gay. It was a hard decision to make at first but I made it and never looked back.

After you came out do you feel as though people changed towards you?
I feel like people were more comfortable with being around me because I was being honest and open about who I was instead of hiding it and acting out because I felt like people were always on the attack when it came to knowing about my lifestyle.

When did you begin singing?
I've been singing my entire 24 yrs of being alive it flourished more once I got to high school and started to come into my own voice.

Who if anyone would you say was your major influence to sing?
There were a lot of influences in music that inspired me to sing such as Brandy, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Toni Braxton, Prince, Diana Ross

Are you the only person I'm your family with this talent?
Well my mother has a nice voice, and one of Brothers has a band but he raps and isn't much of a singer. Lol

What does the art form of singing mean to you?
Singing is an art form and it means a lot to me. It helps me in so many ways. It calms me, it heals, helps me express how I'm feeling. Overall it is a source of comfort for me.

When you are writing songs what are your thoughts and feelings that go into it?
All types of feelings and emotions go into it. If I'm happy I'll right something happy and vice versa.

"What happen to the love" is one of your smash singles, what was the concept behind that song?
It is a good song in my opinion but I wouldn't call it a smash. There wasn't really a concept behind it's more of an expressive song that is just asking what happened to the love in a specific relationship.

Is there any artist past or present you would like to share the stage with?
I would love to share the stage with Ciara, I love her energy and presence on and off the stage.

Being that you are openly gay do you think the world and major record labels are ready to accept the change?
They better be because I would make them a lot of money. Lol

What is one thing about you that many people don't know?
I have accepted the fact that I am not perfect, but understand that it's okay because no one is.

What is one thing in the lgbt community you wish to change?
I would hope to change the competition aspect of it because I feel like as part of the community you feel like you are competing against everyone who is and isn't gay.

Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
I see myself successful in all areas in life and as well in my career in music.
Do you have any last words for your fans and my viewers?
Live life, love God, and most importantly love yourself.
